- Registry of Motor Vehicles has been established on 01 January 1928 and Mr. C. Kumaraswamy was the first Registrar of Motor Vehicles.
- Today it is an “A” grade department. Registration of entire vehicle fleet of the country, Transferring of ownership of the vehicles, Issuance of Driving Licence and imposing of vehicle regulations are the main functions come under the purview of the Department of Motor Traffic and it is enacted by Motor Traffic Act – Chapter 203.
